Google is closing Firebase Studio. New sign-ups and new workspaces were switched off on 22 June 2026, existing workspaces keep working until 22 March 2027, and after that every workspace left in it is deleted and cannot be recovered. That is from Google's own migration notice (source).
If you built something there, here is what to do, in order.
Do this first, whatever you decide next. It costs nothing and it is the only step that cannot wait until March.
Google lists these ways to get your work out:
npx firebase-tools@latest studio:export
Keep the ZIP somewhere safe even if you also push to GitHub. A copy you hold is a copy no one can delete.
Firebase Studio is the building tool. The Firebase services your app may use, Firestore, Authentication and App Hosting, carry on outside it, according to the same notice. So a live app does not stop on 22 March. What stops is the place you were building it.
You have three honest options.
Stay with Google. If your app leans on Firestore and Firebase Authentication and you are happy there, Google points you to Antigravity for working in code and AI Studio for building in the browser. That is the shortest move.
Take the code into an editor. If you or someone on your team writes code, open the export in an editor with an AI assistant and keep going. You keep full control and full responsibility.
Rebuild in a builder whose export runs without it. If you prefer describing what you want to writing code, the lesson of this year is to pick a builder you can leave. Two closed in 2026: Firebase Studio, and Mocha, which shut down on 1 August.
SPOE is a builder you can leave, on purpose. You describe the app and it is built as a Next.js, Fastify and Postgres project, or a plain HTML site if that is what it is. A second AI from a different model family reviews every change, and every change is a version you can undo.
When you export, you get the code, the database schema, Docker files and a signed certificate of where every file came from. It starts with docker compose up, with nothing of SPOE inside. If SPOE ever closed, your app would not notice.
docker compose up
Your exported Firebase Studio code is a good brief: attach the files that describe your screens and data when you describe the app, and the builder uses them. If your app is live on a domain you control, Bring your site can copy its pages, styles and pictures into a SPOE project to keep building.
You can start free with 250 credits, no card, or read the Firebase Studio comparison first. If you would rather someone did it for you, we can build it for you in 48 hours.
22 March 2027. Download your code this week, not that one.

This page needs JavaScript to run the app itself. Everything above is a plain description of it.
