How to export your code from Anything, and keep it running
Anything downloads your project's source code at any time from the Code tab, as a zip: click Download Project. GitHub sync is coming soon, so for now you push the download to a repository yourself, and the database, PostgreSQL on Neon, exports from the database viewer as a ZIP of SQL dumps for development and production, its sign-in tables included. Its docs give no steps for running the code somewhere else, though its FAQ says the code is yours to download, modify and deploy anywhere.
From Anything's own docs, read 2026-10-26. Every step links to the page it is from.
Download the code
- Go to the Code tab and click Download Project to get a zip file of your project's source code. (source)
- To put it on GitHub, push the download to a repository yourself: GitHub sync is coming soon. (source)
Pull it with the CLI (rolling out to select accounts)
- Install the CLI with npm install -g @anythingai/cli, on Node.js 24 or later. (source)
- Log in with anything auth login, through your browser, or with an API key from Anything API Keys in your dashboard's Settings. (source)
- In a folder, run anything link with the project's id, then anything pull to pull the project files to your machine. A pull can take 8 to 14 minutes. (source)
Your database
- Open the database viewer from the Project Selector, or tap a database mention in chat. (source)
- Click Export database. Anything emails you when the export is ready. (source)
What comes out
- The source code, in React and Next.js (JavaScript). (source)
- The backend functions are in the code, in web/api/, one file per route, such as web/api/leads/route.ts. (source)
- The database export is one ZIP holding development.sql and production.sql, each with the full structure and data. (source)
- User accounts are in four auth tables in your database: auth_users, auth_accounts, auth_sessions and auth_verification_token. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. (source)
- Anything says you own all the code and content generated in your projects. (source)
What stays behind, and needs replacing
- A published web app runs on Anything, at its .created.app address. (source)
- Keys for outside services are kept in Saved Secrets, in Project Settings. (source)
- Anything's built-in AI features need no API key of yours; Secrets are only for outside services you bring. (source)
- Some of its built-in integrations use your Anything credits to run. (source)
- Uploaded files go to a cloud storage service; the database holds their URLs where the app needs them again. (source)
- Downgrade to Free and your data and published apps stay, with Anything branding added to published web apps, but you cannot build. (source)
Not on Anything's pages
- How to run the downloaded code on your own computer or server: the commands, the environment variables or Docker files.
- Whether the values in Saved Secrets come with the download.
- Whether the auth tables in the database export carry your users' password hashes.
- How to download the uploaded files in bulk.
How SPOE differs
- The whole project. A SPOE export is the whole project: the code, the Docker files that start it and, for a full-stack app, its database migrations, with a signed provenance manifest and the verifier inside. It starts with docker compose up, with nothing of SPOE inside, so there is nothing of ours to replace.
- Signed and recorded. Every export is signed by SPOE: an Ed25519-signed provenance manifest, with a record of it on APIR's hash-chained log. APIR is a sister company of SPOE, run by the same founder. spoe.ai/verify checks every file and that spoe.ai signed it, in your browser, so anyone can prove the code is exactly what was exported.
- Yours for good. Your first payment of any size unlocks export permanently, whether or not you ever pay again. Locked or not, the code is always visible and copyable in the editor.
- Coming from Anything. SPOE does not import a Anything project. If the app is live and you can show the site is yours, with a DNS record, a file on it or a tag in its pages, Bring your site copies the page at that address, with its styles and pictures, into a SPOE project to keep building; the data and the logic behind it are not copied. Otherwise, describe the app to SPOE and it is built as a Next.js, Fastify and Postgres project you hold. Keep your Anything export either way: it is yours.
